This is an incredibly busy and event-filled time of year in the sport of college basketball. In the coming weeks, all 32 conferences will have their league tournaments and the NCAA Tournament will be the event of March. At the same time, a flurry of action will begin in the Transfer Portal as thousands of collegiate athletes again look for their new homes.

Alongside all of those things, and yes we’re calling the NCAA Tournament a thing, is that the coaching carousel begins to revolve this time of year. In past months we’ve already seen several major openings, with West Virginia opening before the season while schools like DePaul and Ohio State have had firings during the regular season. More openings will come in the weeks ahead and it will be very interested to see where these programs stand when the dust settles.

That mania is already starting to form as the season comes to an end for several teams around the country. Most of the power conference programs still have a final weekend of regular season play, so they won’t be making major moves at the moment. However, conference tournaments in certain leagues have begun, while others have already announced changes even before their seasons end.

Today we’ll be looking at the situations at those schools that have fired their coaches already in the past week or so. This isn’t going to be diving into schools that have had interims this season, like Bryant or Charlotte, nor are we considering places like Charleston Southern or Old Dominion who have already made hires. Instead, we’re examining the seven programs that have already fired their coaches and wondering what lies in store for each of them. In all likelihood, one or two dozen more names will join the list in the weeks ahead.
