There’s action aplenty in the world of NCAA Basketball, especially at this time of the year. We’re already a few weeks into January, meaning conference games have been played for several weeks at this point. Though we’re still more than a month away from March Madness and we’re still learning a lot about the season, you can feel the excitement rising across the country.

The players are making plays, some coaches are coaching for their job, and each school is doing their part to make this sport exciting. Every conference race will be worth watching from top to bottom, though the obvious attention will be on the more prominent power conferences. Whether bitter rivalries, buzzer beaters, or bewildering upsets, January will continue to supply the drama well into February.

In all the drama and excitement we’re starting to see some semblance to the season. Rankings and efficiency metrics can alter rapidly on a week by week basis but it’s clear which teams truly belong after their first few months of the season. At the same time, a single week or even a single game can change a team’s fortune and that’s certainly true as well.

Our task today is on those strongest teams as we’ll be updating our Top 25 rankings with this past week’s results. This is clearly not a perfect system, though we’ll be diving into these twenty-five teams and it’ll become apparent why each were selected, even over some other potential choices. After all, these rankings could be turned upside down based on next week’s results, or even the week after that. Without wasting any more time, let’s start working through those teams.
