There were not a lot of power five games last night but the ones that did happen had some key results. Michigan State avoided the trap game loss at Penn State. That game was not as close as the score would indicate. Clemson beat Miami at Littlejohn. It is important for Clemson to hold serve at home and avoid losses that could reflect them negatively in the tournament seeding. Seton Hall blew out Xavier. The Musketeers will be heading to the NIT and Seton Hall lives to fight another day on the bubble. Auburn beat South Carolina by 40. The Gamecocks needed to avoid being blown out. They are still safely in the field but if they keep getting blown out in road games, they won’t be the seed they hope for. UConn blew out DePaul and Tennessee blew out Arkansas.
In games that did not have as much significant meaning but were still important. Detroit Mercy is winless no more. They beat IUPUI at home to move to 1-26 on the season. Green Bay lost at home to Northern Kentucky. The Phoenix moved into a tie for first place in the Horizon League with the loss. Samford continued their domination of the Southern Conference with a 26-point win over Western Carolina. UMass beat Richmond. That loss moves Richmond into a tie for first place in the Atlantic 10. Loyola Chicago beat Saint Joseph’s which also moves them into a tie at the top of the Atlantic 10.

There are some quality games on the schedule today. Northwestern and Rutgers is going to have a lot of intrigue. The Scarlet Knights are playing well right now and are favored in the game in New Jersey. Northwestern needs to find a way to keep that game close as they head into that game shorthanded. Floor spacer and three-point shooter Ty Berry is out for the year. The Wildcats struggled to score without their floor spacer against Penn State.
The Pac-12 has a bunch of bubble games today. Colorado must find a way to win at UCLA to stay on the bubble. Washington State needs to beat California in Pullman to improve their seeding and Utah cannot lose to USC. If Utah loses to USC, they are likely out of the field. Big games in that league.
