Happy New Year everyone and it was an eventful day of basketball on New Year’s Eve. Green Bay moved into a tie for first place in the Horizon League with a big win over Robert Morris. Oakland beat Youngstown State and Milwaukee beat Wright State. Detroit Mercy lost again which makes them 0-15 on the year. In the Summit League Omaha beat South Dakota and Oral Roberts beat Denver in Overtime.

There was a huge upset in the Pac-12. Stanford scored 100 points and blew out Arizona. Arizona seems to have a head-scratching loss every season and this one is going to potentially cost them a one seed. Arizona State also completed its Bay Area road sweep with another comeback, this time beating Cal. Utah and Colorado both managed to start out 2-0 in league play as well, sweeping both Washington and Washington State at home in Pac-12 play.

Yesterday I went 15-6 in my picks. That gives me a 54 day total of 1,545-539 total. There is not much on the schedule for the first day of 2024. The day is going to be dedicated to the College Football Playoff and basketball is not ever going to interfere with that day. There is one conference game tomorrow. The Coastal Athletic gets started. Picks for day 55 January 1, 2024 are below.

Drexel over Hampton

Texas over Texas Arlington

Texas Tech over North Alabama

TCU over Texas A&M Commerce

Just like I mentioned above there is not much to like on the college basketball schedule tomorrow. The game of the day is Texas and Texas Arlington. The UTA Mavericks do have a team that can give Texas a scare and have a great backcourt. Drexel and Hampton is the best and only mid-major matchup of the day. The schedule picks up as the week goes on.
