NCAA Basketball: Purdue, Kentucky, Memphis rises, Baylor and Gonzaga falls in latest top-25 power rankings
3. UConn Huskies - 10-1
The big matchup of the week outside of Saturday's slate was between UConn and Gonzaga in a top-10 battle. It was technically a neutral site game but since it was played in Seattle across the country, the crowd was decidedly in favor of the Bulldogs.
But UConn didn't care, as it raced out to a big lead, thanks to feeding the ball constantly to big man, Donovan Clingan. He scored eight points early to give all of the momentum to UConn and they maintained a double-digit lead throughout to win, 76-63.
Clingan finished with a game-high 21 pts and 8 rebs on an efficient 8-11 shooting from the field. Cam Spencer had 15 pts on 3/6 shooting from deep, while Tristan Newton had 9 pts and 5 asts. As a team, UConn shot 56% from the field and made 7 of its first 8 shots from three-point range.
The Huskies have shown that it's a threat to repeat as national champions. But first, can they be Big East champions? They'll start the campaign next week, taking on Seton Hall on the road, followed by a home game against St. John's.
