2. Houston Cougars - 11-0
The Cougars only had one game this week after a 10-0 start, a home game against Texas A&M. It's a game that had a chance to be competitive since both teams play the same physical style that's defense-led. However, it was the Cougars that got off to a great start, ultimately leading by 15 pts at the break.
Houston's defense did let up in the final 20 minutes, allowing the Aggies to not only make the game compelling but also have a chance to win it in the final seconds. Luckily, the Big 12 team was able to hold on for the 70-66 win. Emanuel Sharp had 21 points, with LJ Cryer going for 17. Forward J'Wan Roberts ended up being three assists shy of a triple-double on the night.
Unfortunately for the Cougars, they'll be without a rotation player for the rest of the season, as 6'6 guard/forward Terrance Arceneaux suffered an injury and has been declared out for the rest of the 2023-24 campaign. He averaged 6.0 ppg and 5.0 rpg before the game and the team will miss his all-around game off the bench.
We'll see how the team looks going forward without him, as they have two more games before the start of Big 12 play. Up next is Penn, an Ivy League team that has a win over Villanova so far this season.
