NCAA Basketball Recruiting: 9 teams who should target former Purdue commit Kanon Catchings
Indiana Hoosiers
The Hoosiers can relate to Purdue losing a top freshmen wing, as 5-star Liam McNeely opted to leave the program this offseason, now at UConn. Indiana did rebound by landing top-30 wing Bryson Tucker and has Mackenzie Mgbako. They may not need Catchings to fill out the final roster spot but there’s still room in the frontcourt for one more piece and as a local prospect, Indiana may make a run at him.
Memphis Tigers
The Tigers lost its top leading scorer and wing to the NBA Draft two weeks ago in David Jones, leaving a hole in the wings. They don’t have much depth at that position, outside of starting Wichita State transfer, Colby Rogers. Catchings, who has potential as a future draft prospect, would be a nice backup plan for Coach Penny Hardaway if they don’t land transfer target, Arthur Kaluma.
Michigan Wolverines
In the past week, Michigan was in a recruiting battle for FSU transfer wing Jamir Watkins, who would’ve been their starter. But after losing out, they could rebound with Catchings and offer him a similar role. The former Boilermaker could have a large role for the Big Ten rival and Coach Dusty May can use his success with guards Alijah Martin and Johnell Davis at FSU as a selling point.
