NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing 8 teams in play for Miami transfer Wooga Poplar
One of the top players in the NCAA Basketball transfer portal is Wooga Poplar, a 6'5 shooting guard/wing from Miami. He spent three years with the Hurricanes, coming off a career year of 13.1 ppg and 4.8 rpg. He shot 43% from the field and 39% from deep on 5.6 attempts a game.
Poplar is a proven pure shooter with one more year of eligibility. He's currently in the NBA Draft process but if he comes back, there is a list of potential options he could join, with Oregon and Villanova reportedly in the mix to get a visit.
Here's a closer look at his potential impact with each of the following eight programs.
Arkansas Razorbacks
The roster building for new head coach John Calipari has been going slowly as of later, with six open spots still. That includes the perimeter, with just FAU transfer Johnell Davis, as well as 5-star incoming freshman point guard, Boogie Fland.
This is a unique opportunity for someone like Poplar to come in and easily start and give Arkansas a legit shooter that can play right away. Considering the fewer options remaining in the portal, they may want to put the focus on landing the former Hurricane.
Auburn Tigers
Auburn landed Furman transfer JP Pegues early in the offseason and has tried to land another to replace the likes of KD Johnson, Aden Holloway, and Tre Donaldson. They do bring back Denver Jones but perimeter shooting appears to be the biggest weakness on paper.
Auburn has a great frontcourt returning, led by star center, Johni Broome. They’re currently a consensus preseason top-20 team for next season and could move up even more if they land a late talent like Poplar to the mix.
