NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing 8 teams in play for Miami transfer Wooga Poplar
Louisville Cardinals
New head coach Pat Kelsey has successful rebuilt the roster at Louisville this offseason, landing 11 players. That includes plenty of scoring guards and wings, such as Koren Johnson (Washington), Kobe Rodgers (Charleston), and Terrence Edwards Jr., the transfer from James Madison who was the Sun Belt Player of the Year.
The Cardinals have a backcourt of high-major players in Johnson and Chucky Hepburn, the former point guard at Wisconsin. Adding Poplar would make the team even more likely to compete in the ACC next season. But would they be better than the team that Poplar just left in Miami? That’s a tough ask.
Oregon Ducks
The Ducks are moving to the Big Ten and will be needing as much talent as possible to make the transition easy. They bring back starting point guard Jackson Shelstad and adds two key off-guards in 15 ppg scorer Ra’Heim Moss from Toledo and TJ Bamba, a former star at Washington State who struggled at Villanova this past season.
The Ducks are in need of some shooting based on the current roster and Poplar would start, pairing well with Bamba or Moss. But with Shelstad as the clear lead guard, there’s a chance that Poplar ends up in the same situation as he was at Miami, being the 3rd or 4th option on the floor.
