NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing top 3 teams for 4-star prospect Simon Walker
Another class of 2025 NCAA Basketball prospect updated their respective recruitment is Simon Walker, a consensus top-150 player. He's a 6'4 shooting guard from Huntsville, Alabama and is a quality pure shooter and capable scorer as well.
Walker, who is set to announce a decision on Thursday this week, is reportedly down to three teams. All of them could use a key commit in the 2025 class, and one will get good news. But which one will get the commitment? Here's a closer look at Walker's potential fit.
Auburn Tigers
The Tigers are set to lose a lot of depth on the wings, including Chris Moore, Chad Baker-Mazara, and Chaney Johnson. They do have incoming four-star freshman prospect Jahki Howard on both but Walker would be a different kind of player for the program giving them a needed offensive boost. That alone would be able to get him a role on the offense.
Iowa Hawkeyes
Coach Fran McCaffery has a good history of development for forwards with scoring potential, with senior leading scorer Payton Sandfort being the latest example. He's gone and there's little proven depth outside of him for the future. This is an option where Walker could easily get a large role out of the gate.
Virginia Tech Hokies
The Hokies already have a pair of 2025 commits so far, including four-star forward prospect, Sin'Cere Jones. The team has Cal transfer Rodney Brown Jr. and freshman wing Tyler Johnson but neither are proven at this level. This is another option that'll certainly give Walker playing time and as we've seen with prior scorers, he could thrive under Coach Mike Young.
All three teams can offer immediate playing time to Simon, but Auburn's history of winning stands out. Maybe more importantly, staying close to home could be the key selling point to help them win out in this recruitment.
