Another 5-star NCAA Basketball prospect has provided an update to their respective recruitment. This time it's Trey McKenney, a 6'4 shooting guard from Flint, Michigan. He's an elite offensive player and one of the best true scorers in the 2025 class, while also being an underrated rebounder and passer.

McKenney had a larger list of options but has now cut it down to three, including a hometown contender. Which of them makes the most sense from a roster standpoint? Here's a closer look at McKenney's group.

Georgetown Hoyas

There might not be a team in more need of landing a 5-star prospect than Georgetown, who has been struggling for years. Coach Ed Cooley has added lots of young talent but none of them has as high of a ceiling as McKenney. In an ideal world, the Hoyas can pair the top target with senior Jayden Epps, which could be good enough to get the team out of the Big East basement.

Michigan Wolverines

Speaking of coaches needing recruiting wins, can new head coach Dusty May land a 5-star prospect early in his reign with the Wolverines? McKenney is essentially a hometown target and with Michigan State not in the mix, this team has a good shot now. They'll lose Rubin Jones and Nimari Burnett, and with a lack of depth on the wings, Michigan can play McKenney and Roddy Gayle Jr. (if he doesn't go pro) in a future three-guard lineup that would be fairly potent on offense.

USC Trojans

Someone who does have a history of landing 5-star talent is Coach Eric Musselman, who is now at USC. The team did land Xavier transfer Desmond Claude, but he can play the three-spot. Unless Washington transfer Wesley Yates III can break out, McKenney could come in and have a key role, depending on who the team lands in the transfer portal the following offseason.

In a way, all three programs are rebuilding after missing the NCAA Tournament. Georgetown arguably needs the PR boost the most but Michigan can't afford him leaving the state. But can Coach May pull out the recruiting win?
