NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing top 4 teams for 5-star 2025 PG Darius Acuff
Kansas Jayhawks
Pros
The Jayhawks have a chance to be the preseason No. 1 team for next season, thanks to a loaded roster filled with seniors. That includes starter Dajuan Harris Jr., as well as incoming transfers, Shakeel Moore and Zeke Mayo. Outside of backup guard Elmarko Jackson (who will miss all of next season with an injury), there are no other ball-handlers on the roster, opening room for Acuff to be the No. 1 guard on the team if he picks them.
Also, while his resume isn’t as lofty as John Calipari's when it comes to sending players to the NBA, Coach Bill Self has plenty of former stars now in the NBA as well. One big difference between the coaches that work in his favor is that he doesn’t land 5-stars in every class so he won’t instantly be over-recruited and won’t be forced to move on if he isn’t ready. Worst case scenario, Acuff can stay multiple years as a starter for a consistent national title contender.
Cons
With the potential of winning and playing time not a question here, it’s hard to find any true “cons” at Kansas. The main one is that Coach Self has reported past health concerns and he may not be around for too much longer, though that shouldn’t matter much with Acuff if he’s a true “one and done”.
Still, Kansas did land a ton of guard transfers this offseason and Coach Self never has a “young” team. Considering how many seniors they’re set to lose, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they land more a year from now, which could impact Acuff’s potential role in the offense.
