4. Oregon Ducks

Under Coach Dana Altman, the Ducks have a good history of breakout transfers, including Jermaine Couisnard from this past season. With the news that leading scorer N’Faly Dante won’t be returning for another year, there’s guard Jackson Shelstad and key transfers such as TJ Bamba and Brandon Angel.

This is a unique roster to analyze because there are a pair of former 5-star wing prospects still around in Kwame Evans and Mookie Cook, who both dealt with injuries last season. Both could very well have breakout campaigns and if the transfers have an impact, the role for Watkins would look much more different than it was at Florida State.

3. Kansas State Wildcats

In the past couple of weeks, the Wildcats continued to fill out the frontcourt by adding forward Achor Achor and center Ugonna Onyenso. The backcourt has already been set with the early pickups of Dug McDaniel and both CJ and Max Jones. The one position of possible need is on the wing, as they lack a true starting three-man at the Big 12 level.

With the recent pickups, Kansas State could have a formidable roster if Watkins became the missing piece. And he’d still have a decent-size role on offense and help improve the defense. But if Achor and McDaniel are the clear go-to options on offense, Watkins would have to settle for being a “role” player for a likely bubble team next season.
