NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Ranking the 12 teams in play for Rutgers transfer Clifford Omoruyi
2. St. John’s Red Storm
Omoruyi has been in the New York/Jersey area since arriving in the United States, including playing his high school ball at Roselle Catholic in New Jersey. If he wants to stay in the region, St. John’s would make a lot of sense. They’re losing big man Joel Soriano this offseason, leaving former top-40 prospect, Zuby Ejiofor, as the lone proven big inside.
Coach Rick Pitino is a national title winner with plenty of history of player development, both inside and out. The Red Storm has lost a lot of talent from the roster so other moves have to be made but if they can land Omoruyi to start out, he could attract a couple of other big portal additions.
1. North Carolina Tar Heels
There are some similarities to Alabama in that the Heels are waiting on star guard and ACC Player of the Year, RJ Davis. He has a 5th year available but could go pro. If he’s gone, UNC suddenly becomes less viable compared to some of the other teams.
If Davis comes back, the Heels could be back in title contention. They don’t have Armando Bacot anymore, opening up room for someone like Omoruyi to have a similar kind of role. On paper, this is the option (assuming Davis is back) that has the fewest flaws and highest upside among the 12.
