NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Ranking top 4 options for Tennessee transfer Jones Aidoo
There is a group of NCAA Basketball programs in the mix to land Tennessee transfer, Jonas Aidoo. Which of them is the best potential landing spot?
One of the best centers currently in the NCAA Basketball transfer portal is Jonas Aidoo, a 6'11 big man from Durham, North Carolina. He spent three years at Tennessee, coming off a career-year as a starter. He averaged 11.4 ppg and 7.3 rpg, along with nearly two blocks a game.
As one of the top interior bigs in the portal, Aidoo has gotten plenty of interest. And now, there are reports that a few teams have emerged as contenders for his services, with visits ongoing. Here's a look at how he'd fit with each of them.
Alabama Crimson Tide
With both Mohamed Wague and Nick Pringle entering the frontcourt, the depth at the 5-spot is limited right now. And forward Grant Nelson could go pro as well. Aidoo is the ideal defensive big man to improve the Tide on that end of the court. But if things go well with Rutgers transfer Cliff Omoruyi on his weekend visit, they may not need Aidoo anymore.
Arkansas Razorbacks
New HC John Calipari is very familiar with Aidoo during his days with Kentucky so it makes for them to be interested. Since moving over to Arkansas, he lost a few bigs, leaving just Zvonimir Ivisic coming over with him. The 7'2 center showed great promise and if he breaks out, that could be an unexpected development for Aidoo in his final season when it came to minute allocation.
Baylor Bears
The Bears got a massive transfer portal pickup this offseason in Jeremy Roach, who started four years at Duke. They now need to find frontcourt help since freshman star Yves Missi has gone to the NBA Draft, while JUCO center Noah Boyed has since de-committed. They have an open spot for a starting center and the defensive-minded Aidoo would be a nice fit for their system.
North Carolina Tar Heels
UNC is another school who has to replace a star big man, as Armando Bacot has finally run out of eligibility. With James Okonkwo also in the portal, that leaves them with just Jalen Washington and incoming freshman, James Brown for center depth.
Since RJ Davis is back, the Heels don't need a 20 ppg scoring big man. What they do need is an experienced big man that can produce on both ends. They've been looking for a big man and Aidoo could be the answer they've been looking for.
