3. Rob Dillingham (Kentucky)

While a new era has begun in Lexington, we’re still taking time to appreciate the end of the old one. John Calipari made a habit of bringing some of the best young talent to Kentucky and he landed a great one in Dillingham last offseason. This 6’2 guard from North Carolina really stood out at the high school level and was considered a 5-star recruit before committing to the Wildcats. His one and only year of college ball was pretty productive as well, even with a lame finish for Calipari and this program.

Establishing himself off the bench, Dillingham averaged 15.2 points and 3.9 assists per game while making 44% of his 3-point attempts on the year. He was named SEC Sixth Man of the Year, earned Second Team All-SEC honors, and was one of the best shooters in the league. Dillingham was basically playing starter’s minutes from the bench and was a very important piece of the puzzle for the Wildcats this season.

He did well early in the season in the nonconference and had some strong performances once SEC play began in January. He dropped 23 points on Missouri early in league play before a stunning 35-point effort against Tennessee a few weeks later. Despite Kentucky’s season ending in misery and upset, Dillingham did score 27 in their conference tournament loss to Texas A&M. He was a vital, talented guard for the Wildcats who has a bright future ahead in the NBA, much like many other former Calipari guards.
