2. Boo Buie (Northwestern)

Arguments can be made for other players, but it’s not hard to say that Buie is the best player in the history of Northwestern basketball. Buie completed a 5-year playing career this past season, further cementing himself in the Wildcats’ history books as their all-time leading scorer all while having the most productive season of his career.

That fifth season saw him improve his numbers again, averaging 19.0 points and 5.0 assists per game while making 43% of his 3-pointers on the year. Buie was named First Team All-Big Ten, standing out as one of the nation’s finest backcourt players. He led the Big Ten in 3-point shooting and was among the league leaders in scoring and assists yet again, all while getting Northwestern to just their third NCAA Tournament in program history.

Buie seemed to save his best for the biggest moments, scoring 31 points in an upset of Purdue and dropped 29 in a big win over Illinois. Those types of high-scoring efforts were regular for him this season, including a double-double (19 points, 10 assists) in another upset against Michigan State. Buie led the Wildcats to the Big Dance again and dropped22 points on a tough Florida Atlantic team in their opening round win.
