6. DJ Horne (NC State)

Let’s set the table for a player who had an incredible ending to his collegiate career. Horne was a star for two seasons in the MVC at Illinois State before putting up impressive numbers the following two years at Arizona State in the Pac-12. He already proved he could play well at the power conference level but took his game to the next level this past season. NC State would be the place for his final collegiate season and Horne helped those Wolfpack make history.

Across the season, Horne would average 16.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per game, hitting 40% of his 3-pointers and fitting nicely into Kevin Keatts’ system. The Raleigh native was named Third Team All-ACC and was playing great ball back at home. There’s no question that Horne was a fantastic backcourt player, even in a league like the ACC, but his story was punctuated by the Wolfpack’s legendary postseason run.

He played fantastic ball during an ACC Tournament title run, including a 29-point effort in the title game against Duke. Responsible for a pair of 30-point efforts in weeks prior, Horne saved better basketball for the Big Dance, helping power NC State to the Final Four as an 11-seed, scoring 20 points in both the Elite Eight win over Duke and Final Four loss to Purdue. He’s a dynamic scorer who played an important role that won’t be forgotten back in his hometown for an oft-forgotten ACC program that really stood out in March.
