2. Keshon Gilbert (Iowa State)

Gilbert spent his first two collegiate seasons out west at UNLV, growing into a pretty steady player for the Rebels. He took a big step forward as a sophomore before opting to transfer, joining the Cyclones’ backcourt this past offseason. Now facing stiffer competition in the Big 12, Gilbert took another massive step forward, developing into one of the stars on a very successful Iowa State team that reached the Sweet Sixteen this season.

A member of that starting backcourt, Gilbert averaged 13.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists on the year, with decent shooting numbers as well. He was actually the leading scorer for a balanced Cyclones’ rotation while earning Second Team All-Big 12 honors for his contributions as a whole. He sat among the conference’s leaders in points, assists, steals, and several defensive metrics.

Gilbert got his junior year started fast, including a 22-point, 10-assists effort over VCU during an efficient November. He’d drop 25 on rival Iowa, had a triple-double against New Hampshire and was a major part of the Cyclones’ 2nd place finish in the league. Even more impressive was his run in Kansas City, winning Big 12 Tournament MVP with brilliant performances before more of the same on that Sweet Sixteen run.
