Honorable Mentions

Johnny Furphy (Kansas)

A guard from Australia, Furphy found his way into a major role with the Jayhawks as a true freshman. He started more than half of Kansas’s games and became one of their most important shooters, averaging 9.0 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Furphy showed plenty of potential for the future, earning a spot on the Big 12 All-Freshman team with some great performances during league play.

Connor Hickman (Bradley)

Hickman is an Indiana native who has found a significant role with Bradley these last few years. As a junior he averaged 14.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.9 assists, including a 40% mark from outside the arc. His great step forward this season earned him All-MVC honors for the first time as he sat among the conference’s leaders in field goal percentage. It also didn’t hurt that he was the leading scorer for a Braves crew that won 23 games.

Issac McBride (Oral Roberts)

The last few seasons saw McBride develop into a great guard for Oral Roberts but this was by far his best season for with Golden Eagles. The former Vanderbilt transfer averaged 19.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists, taking on a much bigger role for the program and a new coaching staff. He’d earn Second Team All-Summit honors while leading the league in free throw percentage and putting up very impressive offensive figures across the board.

Cody Williams (Colorado)

One of the nation’s top recruits, Williams was clearly a freshman with high expectations and he had quite the season with the Buffaloes. In what was a pretty decent final year in the Pac-12, Williams averaged 11.9 points and 3.0 rebounds per game with great shooting numbers. He missed more than a month of the season and played more sparingly late in the year, but Williams was still among the best freshman in the conference.

Samuell Williamson (SMU)

A former top recruit at Louisville, Williamson has played a significant role as a starter in SMU’s frontcourt in recent seasons. This past year was his fifth in college ball and he averaged 8.3 points and 7.1 rebounds as one of the best rebounders in the AAC. Williamson did work on both sides of the ball, helping take the Mustangs to a bounce back season with 20 wins and a 5th place finish in the league.
