8. Chad Baker-Mazara (Auburn)

For Baker-Mazara, college has been anything but a straightforward journey. He played well as a freshman at Duquesne, struggled for consistency at San Diego State, and then spent his third season at Northwest Florida State College. After standing out at the junior college level, Baker-Mazara transferred again, this time landing on a much bigger stage at Auburn. In the end he’d assume a much bigger role for those Tigers.

While he only started a handful of games at Auburn, Baker-Mazara played a critical role off the bench. He averaged 10.0 points and 3.7 rebounds while making 42% of his 3-pointers and 88% of his free throws. Not only was he one of the most underrated shooters in the SEC, he was once again an impactful sixth man, much like he had been with the Aztecs. This time he was doing it at the power conference level, helping Auburn to the Big Dance.

Baker-Mazara settling into an important role in the back half of the season and actually became a starter in late February. He scored 25 points at Georgia in his first start and had a nice string of double-digit efforts late in league play. He played well in a win over rival Alabama and helped guide the Tigers to the SEC Tournament title, though his role was very limited in the Big Dance as he was ejected in the opening minutes.
