7. Julian Reese (Maryland)

Considered a 4-star recruit back in 2021, Reese was of the final great grabs by former Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon. He was a decent piece off the bench as a freshman but opted not to transfer after a coaching change. In fact, Reese has taken on a much larger role under current coach Kevin Willard and is coming off his best efforts as a junior.

Even though Maryland finished the season below .500, Reese still put up the best numbers of his career, averaging 13.7 points and 9.5 rebounds. He was the Terrapins’ top rebounder and one of their most important weapons on both sides of the ball. Reese sat among the Big Ten’s leaders in both rebounds and blocks; it’s just a shame that the Terrapins didn’t have more talent around him on this roster.

Looking closer at the specifics, Reese had a plethora of double-doubles, including 15-rebound games against South Alabama and Penn State early in the season. He had 20 points and 10 rebounds in an upset win at Illinois and had a 15-point, 16-rebound against Nebraska, another Tournament team. The bottom line is that Reese played good basketball down the stretch and has plenty of potential moving forward as well.
