5. Jalen Bridges (Baylor)

It’s been five years in the Big 12 for Bridges, though he did redshirt as a freshman back in the season shortened by the pandemic. After three seasons (two on the court) at West Virginia, he opted for greener pastures over at Baylor and has become a very important piece of the puzzle for the Bears. He doesn’t always get the notoriety as some other recent stars in the Big 12, but his contributions in the frontcourt have been important for Baylor’s success.

Bridges took another step forward as a senior, putting up 12.2 points and 5.7 rebounds while making 41% of his 3-pointers and 82% of his free throws. He earned All-Big 12 honors for the first time in his career, making definite progress on the offense half of his game. He didn’t quite have the shot blocking numbers as in his junior season, but was important in Baylor’s 3rd place finish in the Big 12, remaining their leading rebounder.

After decent play early in the season, Bridges really stood out with 23 points in a win over Florida and later dropped 25 points against BYU during the first week of Big 12 play. Among his most notable efforts was a 32-point, 9-rebound game in early March, knocking off Texas in the home finale. Bridges scored 23 points against Colgate in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, though his Bears were knocked out in round two.
