1. Cam Spencer (Connecticut)

Back when he was an underclassman at Loyola-Maryland, Spencer showed significant promise but him winning a national championship certainly would’ve come as a shock. He would transfer to Rutgers and play a critical role for the Scarlet Knights before landing at UConn this past offseason. Spencer played well across another historic season for the Huskies, becoming exactly what the program needed en route to another national title.

Spencer averaged 14.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists while hitting 44% of his 3-pointers in his lone season with the Huskies. Those numbers alone were sensational, let alone that they came on a national championship winning team. One of the Big East’s best scorers and ball distributors, Spencer was anointed First Team All-Big East, also sitting among the league leaders in steals. His work on both sides of the ball was phenomenal and he truly was one of the biggest additions from the Transfer Portal.

Early returns were good on Spencer’s play, though he saved his best ball for when it mattered most. He had numerous 20-point games during Big East play, including in wins over Butler, St. John’s, and Villanova and helped lead the Huskies to a conference tournament title. During their Tourney run, Spencer had 18 points in the Sweet Sixteen against San Diego State before a double-double (11 points, 12 rebounds) in the Elite Eight en route to putting his name in the history books forever.
