6. Shahada Wells (McNeese State)

School four for Wells turned into quite the stop at the end of his college career. He had two years at Tyler Junior College, then became a big scoring threat at UT Arlington. Wells then spent parts of two seasons playing a minor role during TCU’s success but transferred yet again this offseason. He landed at McNeese State, joining incoming coach Will Wade and what would be a very talented roster, especially for a team in the Southland Conference.

The former Big 12 bench piece averaged 17.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game in that lone season with McNeese while making 38% of his 3-pointers. He was the epitome of success in the conference, winning Southland Player of the Year and grabbing a spot on the All-Defense team. Not only was he second in the league in points and assists, Wells also finished second in the entire nation with 3.0 steals a game and led the Cowboys to the Big Dance.

Wells came up huge time and time again, including 23 points in an opening night upset at VCU. He scored 36 points in an upset win at UAB, just a few weeks after a 37-point effort against Western Carolina. Wells also had 30 points and 10 rebounds in another upset at Michigan. His play was just as dynamic during league play, including Southland Tournament MVP honors after a pair of 27-point efforts for the tourney title.
