Where collegiate sports stand out from the professional ones is the very depth of competition. Die-hard fans of the professional basketball or football could likely name most players in the league, but nobody truly knows every player off the 362 D1 programs in the world of college basketball.

The argument can and should easily be made that the level of competition is much higher in professional basketball, but we’re not concerned at all with that. Our concern is on the intrigue of college basketball. If you follow just the top teams, biggest stories, or postseason action, you miss hundreds and perhaps thousands of smaller stories and less exciting players. After all, fair weather fans who just watch the NCAA Tournament won’t be moved by CAA or Patriot League action.

We’re telling those stories in a way with this article series, albeit we’re not exactly focusing on a certain breed of stories. We’ve been looking closely at the best players from the past season based solely on their uniform numbers. Nobody is forced to wear a certain number and picking a specific digit doesn’t guarantee success or prosperity. This series is purely arbitrary but has had some interesting results.

We’ve already done ten previous articles in the series and today’s focus gets us excited for those players who wore #14. There have been an intriguing selection of players who wore these teen numbers and there’s certainly a unique group of players again today. Some of these names will definitely be new to some fans, especially a few among the honorable mentions. Let’s stop speculating and get right into the list and see the impact they made this season.
