NCAA Basketball: Top 10 players to wear jersey No. 14 in 2023-24 season
By Joey Loose
4. Malevy Leons (Bradley)
A native of the Netherlands, Leons certainly didn’t take a direct route to stardom at the collegiate level. He actually spent the first two years of his college career under the radar at Mineral Area College in Missouri before he was nabbed by Brian Wardle and his staff at Bradley. Leons spent each of the last three years developing into an impactful frontcourt weapon for a solid Braves team and is certainly coming off his most productive season of D1 ball.
As a fifth-year senior, Leons put up 13.8 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game while also shooting 34% from outside the arc. He was the best rebounder and one of the top scoring threats for a Bradley team that won 23 games and finishing 3rd in the MVC. His defensive metrics were impressive as were his shot blocking numbers, a major reason why he was the league’s Defensive Player of the Year for a second year in a row.
Also named First Team All-MVC, Leons showcased himself right from the beginning, tabbing 24 points and 14 rebounds on opening night in a win at UAB. He helped key nonconference wins over Utah State and Tulane and had some great performances during league play. Leons had 23 points in a win at rival Illinois State, had 6 blocks in a game against Southern Illinois, and helped take Bradley to the second round of the NIT.
