NCAA Basketball: Top 10 players to wear jersey No. 14 in 2023-24 season
By Joey Loose
3. Casey Morsell (NC State)
Morsell was a Top 75 recruit who landed at Virginia back in 2019, arriving on campus just a few months after the Cavaliers won their first national championship. Morsell would not be part of that type of success in Charlottesville and would actually transfer to NC State after his sophomore year. He’s spent a full five years playing in the ACC but nothing quite compares to what he and his teammates accomplished this season.
Putting up numbers that nearly copied his previous season, Morsell averaged 11.1 points and 2.8 rebounds per game as a starting guard for the Wolfpack in what would become a dramatic season. He wasn’t quite the shooter as in seasons past, but Morsell still contributed on an NC State team that won the ACC Tournament after a 10th place finish and then marched to the Final Four.
Way back in November, Morsell had 28 points in a tough loss to BYU and later dropped 21 in a decent win over Saint Louis. His play was up and down during league play, but he actually jumpstarted the Wolfpack’s March run, putting up 25 points in their win over Louisville in the opening round of the ACC Tournament. He later had 15 points in the Sweet Sixteen upset over Marquette and provided assistance throughout a historic three weeks of basketball.
