5. Spencer Jones (Stanford)
Impactful for Stanford in recent years, it’s been quite the run for Jones in his collegiate career, starting 139 games across the last half decade with the Cardinal. The forward has never had numbers that jumped off the page but he’s been a consistent threat for Stanford in each of his seasons in Palo Alto, with his numbers most recently certainly what stands out.
Injuries cost him most of this last December, but he still made the most of his fifth season, averaging 11.7 points and 4.1 rebounds while hitting 41% of his 3-pointers on the year. He remained a valiant offensive weapon and shooter for the Cardinal and also ranked among the Pac-12’s leaders in steals. This wasn’t exactly a great season for Stanford itself, finishing under .500, but Jones played an important role during the little success they did have.
Before his injury, Jones was impressive with 27 points and 8 rebounds in a loss to Arkansas during the Battle 4 Atlantis. He came on strong once he got back on the court right before New Year’s, with 21 points in an astounding upset over Arizona. Jones would later drop 30 points in a win over Washington and ended the season with a pair of 20-point performances in the Pac-12 Tournament, including a season-ending loss to Washington State.
