2. DaRon Holmes II (Dayton)

A monumental standout in recent years, Holmes just completed what was a phenomenal third season at Dayton. The former Top 40 prospect opted for Anthony Grant and his program three seasons ago and has developed into one of the best prospects in recent memory in the A-10. He’s fresh off a very notable junior season that will be his last at the collegiate level, but he made it count.

Playing the starring role on a talented Dayton squad, Holmes would average 20.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game while making 38% of his 3-pointers on the season. As his league’s top scorer and rebounder, there’s little surprise to see Holmes named A-10 Player of the Year as well as Defensive Player of the Year. Holmes led the Flyers back to the Big Dance for the first time in seven years and was also named a Second Team All-American for an elite junior season.

Notable performances dotted his season, including a 23-point, 17-rebound effort against Troy back during nonconference play. He’d put up 33 at Duquesne, scored 34 against St. Bonaventure, and had numerous double-doubles and winning efforts against his A-10 opposition. Despite the Flyers’ loss in the league tournament, Holmes would score 18 points in their NCAA Tournament win over Nevada and had 23 points and 11 rebounds in a season-ending loss to Arizona. Forgoing future eligibility, we’ve seen the last of Holmes in a Flyers uniform but not on a basketball court.
