1. Zach Edey (Purdue)

No player in this sport shined brighter than Edey this past season. Once a project big for the Boilermakers, Edey took monumental steps forward as an upperclassman, winning national player of the year awards and standing out on the national stage as a junior. While that season ending in miserable upset in the Big Dance, Edey was back in West Lafayette and made sure history did not completely repeat itself.

It did partially repeat itself, as Edey won AP Player of the Year and many other national honors once again, this time averaging 25.2 points and 12.2 rebounds a game. He led the nation in total points and rebounds while topping the Big Ten in field goal percentage and many other metrics. Edey was obviously Big Ten Player of the Year again while guiding Purdue all the way to the national championship game this past April.

He averaged 25.3 points and 13.0 rebounds during three Top 10 wins at Maui and helped Purdue blast their way through Big Ten opposition. His entire season included eleven games with at least 30 points and nine with 15 or more rebounds. Edey had video game numbers during Purdue’s postseason run, including 30 points and 21 rebounds against Grambling, 40 pointa and 16 rebounds against Tennessee, and an unforgettable 37-point affair in the championship loss to UConn.
