8. Lynn Kidd (Virginia Tech)

In Kidd’s first few collegiate seasons, he wasn’t much more than a backup center playing a small role. He only played seven games as a freshman at Clemson before transferring to Virginia Tech, though it took time for him to find his way onto the court with the Hokies as well. This past season was a major step forward in that regard, as the now senior stepped into the starting role for Virginia Tech.

In becoming the Hokies’ starting center, Kidd had by far the best numbers of his career, putting up 13.2 points and 6.5 rebounds a game. He made just under 67% of his field goals, a mark that led the ACC and was 4th in the nation while standing out as a great interior threat on offense. While his defensive metrics weren’t as impressive, he was clearly a major weapon for a Hokies squad that won 19 games and finished in the middle of the pack in the ACC.

During Virginia Tech’s third game of the season Kidd had 24 points and 15 rebounds in a win over Campbell. He played well in key wins over Boise State and Iowa State and later dropped 31 points in the final nonconference tune up against American. Later in the year he grabbed 15 rebounds against Florida State and would score 21 points in a nice win over Wake Forest in early March. Kidd helped the Hokies to the second round of the NIT, with 20 points and 8 rebounds in their win over Richmond.
