8. Vonterius Woolbright (Western Carolina)

Not a lot of national focus is spent on the Southern Conference, so many fair weather fans likely won’t know who Woolbright even is. A former JUCO player at Lawson State CC, he arrived at Western Carolina three seasons ago and gradually developed into a monster for the Catamounts. In his final collegiate campaign, Woolbright truly emerged, putting up some video game numbers in the SoCon.

After fantastic numbers last season, this year truly topped that as Woolbright averaged 21.1 points, 12.0 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game. He was named Player of the Year in the SoCon after leading the conference in both points and rebounds, sitting third in the entire nation in rebounds per game. He was the epitome of excellence for the Catamounts, really stuffing the stat sheets and helping his program to a 22-win campaign.

Not only did nearly all of his games become double-doubles, Woolbright had five triple-doubles this season, with all of them coming in conference play. He helped take the Catamounts to a 4th place finish in their league, with triple-doubles in his final two regular season games. Woolbright had three 30-point efforts, led the team to numerous wins, and truly did standout as a giant at the mid-major level.
