2. Aidan Mahaney (Saint Mary’s)

During his freshman season Mahaney showed insane promise during a fantastic season for the Gaels. Saint Mary’s truly appreciated his efforts and got another fine season from him as a sophomore this past season. Mahaney was critical to what was a phenomenal campaign for Saint Mary’s, so let’s get right into that.

Mahaney averaged 13.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game while making 35% of his 3-pointers. Most importantly, the First Team All-WCC guard helped take the Gaels both to regular season and tournament titles in the WCC, finally conquering Gonzaga. His 83 made 3-pointers on the year was tops in the conference, while he played strong basketball on both sides.

During the season’s opening week Mahaney had 25 points in a nice win over New Mexico. While the Gaels would struggle the next few weeks, Mahaney helped lead quite the bounce back for this program. He eclipsed 20 points in several conference wins, including in the Gaels’ road win at Gonzaga. He scored 23 more points against those Bulldogs to win the WCC Tournament. The tremendous young guard continues his career at UConn next year and might take another step forward.
