NCAA Basketball: Top 10 players to wear jersey No. 20 in 2023-24 season
By Joey Loose
1. Jaylon Tyson (California)
Each year of college ball has been quite different for Tyson, who just completed his junior year on the West Coast. The Texas native spent his underclassman years in his home state, being a minor bench piece at Texas before a much more productive season at Texas Tech. After modest gains in the Big 12, he transformed into one of the best offensive players in the Pac-12 this past year.
That major step forward saw Tyson average 19.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game with a decent 36% clip from outside the arc and 80% from the charity stripe. Not only did he become Cal’s top scoring threat, Tyson earned First Team All-Pac-12 honors for that impressive campaign, finishing third in the league in scoring and seventh in rebounding. Though the Golden Bears’ record wasn’t impressive, Tyson was a big part of a 10-win improvement and 6th place finish.
The beginning of the season didn’t feature a lot of wins for the Golden Bears, though Tyson regularly had 20-point performances. He starred with 30 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists in an upset win over Washington in January and would put up 27 points and 11 rebounds against USC a few weeks later. He keyed a win over Oregon (27 points) and was a remarkable offensive weapon all season long.
