From shooting hoops in the backyard to lacing up sneakers on court at the Final Four, basketball in present in all sorts of forms. The thousands of college basketball players mostly started out as the former, just youngsters hoping to live their dreams one day. While there’s a great supply of names and stories even at the D1 level, not all of those players get to live all of their dreams.

The dozen or so athletes at UConn got to cut down the nets back in April, but does that mean every other team’s season was a disappointment? Each program has stories to tell from this past season and in fact from each and every passing season. No season is exactly the same as the next or the last and that’s something we’re trying to remember here today, particularly focused on this most recent season.

The way we’ve been doing that is quite unorthodox, but we’re continuing our long-running articles series in that light. We’ve been looking at some of the best players from this past year of college basketball but breaking them down in an unusual way. We’ve separated and ranked them all based on their jersey numbers and nothing else. We’re taking time to show the best of the best at each number and that process keeps rolling today.

Already more than a dozen pieces into this project, the attention today turns to those donning #21. You’ll find fewer college basketball players wearing numbers in the twenties than in the single-digits, though there’s still intriguing talent here to behold. Without further ado, we’re going to run through a crew of honorable mentions who just missed the cut before running through our ten choices as most notable wearers of this jersey number.
