10. JaKobe Coles (TCU)

Coles didn’t see the court a ton early in his basketball career, but he hasn’t let that slow start keep him down. A forward from northern Texas, he began his career by way of Butler, though he appeared in just six games for the Bulldogs in the first season after the start of the pandemic. Coles’ last three seasons have come much closer to home at TCU and he’s fresh off a senior year with by his far his finest effort.

Now a part-time starter earning more consistent minutes, Coles averaged 10.0 points and 3.8 rebounds per game, making 42% of his 3-pointers with decent metrics across the board. He was an efficient weapon for the Horned Frogs, helping guide the program to another decent finish in a strong Big 12. TCU would win 21 games and return to the NCAA Tournament, while Coles had solid shooting and shot blocking figures.

Though he was TCU’s fourth-leading scorer, Coles had moments of brightness, including early in the year. He scored 21 against Omaha and 20 on Alcorn State, but also had solid moments during league play. His 18-point effort helped the Horned Frogs conquer Cincinnati in late February, while he’d have 19 points in the season-ending loss to Utah State in the Big Dance. It was a definite step forward for Coles as a big piece of this frontcourt.
