5. Yves Missi (Baylor)

As has been the case in recent years, Baylor has been a contender in the Big 12 and one of the nation’s finest programs under Scott Drew. That coaching staff keeps bringing winners to Waco and Missi was certainly among that flock. Originally from Cameroon, Missi went to prep school in California and was a Top 30 prospect who landed at Baylor this past offseason where he’d become a contributor right off the bat.

Missi’s freshman year saw him put up 10.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game as a starter in the Bears’ frontcourt. He established himself as one of the best new players in the Big 12 while shooting 61% from inside the arc and becoming a solid rebounder and shot blocker. Missi was named to both the All-Freshman and All-Defense teams in the conference and clearly aided Baylor’s 3rd place finish and trip to another Big Dance.

He’d contribute to Baylor’s hot start to the season but had some of his best performances saved for league play. Missi had 25 points and 9 rebounds in a bitter triple-overtime loss to TCU and scored 21 at Kansas just a couple weeks later. He helped lead the Bears to victory in the rematch with Kansas, scoring 17 points. His performances weren’t great during the NCAA Tournament but Missi certainly showed off his talent and has potential as a professional player next season.
