A lot of things go into a single season of college basketball even when the games only last five months out of the year. We’re in the middle of what feels like an exhausting offseason for some programs, utilizing the Transfer Portal to rebuild their programs. Those teams and players are already putting in the efforts and hard work for next year, merely wanting to stand out on the national stage and make their dreams come true.

College basketball is no different from other sports in that regard, though the dreams are a little different here. With hundreds of D1 programs and thousands of schools at other levels, not every basketball player is going to be an All-American or win a national title, but that doesn’t mean their dreams can’t come true. Success is bred in different ways in this sport and we’ve been looking at all kinds of success here recently.

We have been presenting successful college basketball players in this long-running series, one that has ranked the best players of the past season based solely on their jersey numbers. That number on the back of one’s uniform has zero correlation to whether they’ll be successful; this is solely an exercise and bizarre sorting method. Few really think about players based on their uniform numbers after all.

When you’re watching college hoops, do you really think about who is wearing #22 or what might be the best players to have that number? Today we’ll be diving into the best players from the past season with that jersey number, just as we have with more than a dozen other numbers previously. Let’s start off with a few honorable mentions before getting into the best of the best; a few hundred D1 players wore the number #22 this season.
