5. Milan Momcilovic (Iowa State)

This was an absolutely phenomenal season for Iowa State, as the Cyclones spent part of the season in the Top 10 and were one of the most complete teams in the nation. Momcilovic was certainly a part of that equation and undoubtedly outperformed expectations. A freshman from Wisconsin, he was considered a Top 50 prospect in this most recent class but played at times like a seasoned veteran for T. J. Otzelberger and his Cyclones.

In starting every game for Iowa State Momcilovic put up 10.9 points and 3.1 rebounds, making 36% of his 3-pointers and playing an important role on both sides of the ball. He was named Big 12 All-Freshman for his efforts, sliding right into a defensive-minded lineup without major star power on offense. Momcilovic was an effective scorer who played right into that strong defense.

His season started hot, with 18 points against Green Bay and 17 on Lindenwood in the opening week. Momcilovic wasn’t just beating up on mid-majors, as he’d score a season-high 21 points against Virginia Tech and continue to play consistent ball against Big 12 opposition. Solid play came in big wins over Houston and Kansas, while also helping lead the Cyclones to the Big 12 Tournament, scoring 18 points in the title game over the Cougars. The future is bright for the young forward who helped take Iowa State to the Sweet Sixteen.
