By Joey Loose
1. Trey Alexander (Creighton)
As an underclassman, Alexander had a significant impact with this Creighton program. He’s been surrounded by extraordinary talent throughout his collegiate career but really has started to stand out on his own in recent years. After a profound step forward as a sophomore, Alexander took on even more responsibility after a few changes on this Creighton roster.
Creighton certainly had a dependable backcourt weapon, as Alexander put up 17.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists a game for the Bluejays. Alexander earned Second Team All-Big East, standing out as one of the conference’s leaders in points, defensive rebounds, and assists. He was an efficient scorer who gobbled up minutes for the Bluejays, helping the program to another strong conference season and a trip to the Sweet Sixteen.
One part of a talented Creighton roster, Alexander had at least 20 points in the first four games of the season, flirting with a triple-double against Iowa with 23 points, 11 rebounds, and 9 assists. He’d have numerous 20-point affairs during Big East play, including in wins over Providence, Seton Hall, and Xavier and also aided an impressive win over UConn. During the Big Dance, Alexander had 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists in a second-round win against Oregon before losing to Tennessee.
