2. KJ Adams Jr. (Kansas)

Adams won a national championship during his freshman year at Kansas, though his role off the bench saw him playing just a few minutes a game. These past two seasons have seen him step into a significantly bigger role with the Jayhawks. Adams has developed into a great piece in this Kansas frontcourt and despite the Jayhawks’ struggles at times, his junior year was by far his most productive.

He would average 12.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game as a major threat for this Kansas team. Adams led the Big 12 by making 60% of his field goal attempts and had decent numbers across the board. A surprising 5th place finish in the Big 12 seemed disappointing, though Adams came up with some key moments in another productive season for the Jayhawks.

Adams was never expected to carry the load, but played well in early wins over Kentucky (16 points) and Tennessee (13 points) during the Jayhawks’ great start to the season. After double-doubles over TCU and Oklahoma, he played well in numerous wins and was at his best by March. Adams scored 22 points in an upset loss to Cincinnati in the Big 12 Tournament and put up 20 on Samford in the NCAA Tournament’s opening round; though his season would end two days later against Gonzaga.
