1. Enrique Freeman (Akron)

When Freeman first played for Akron, it was hard to tell exactly what John Groce and company had in him. The Cleveland native barely saw the floor in his freshman season but took massive steps forward in the coming years after the pandemic. Freeman just finished year five with the Zips and had what was undoubtedly one of the most productive seasons for any mid-major player in any league, let alone as a frontcourt star in the MAC.

That productive year saw him average 18.6 points and 12.9 rebounds per game while making 62% of his 2-point field goals. The numbers were clearly outrageous, as Freeman would actually lead the entire nation in rebounds per game. He was named MAC Player of the Year, leading Akron to a 2nd place finish in the conference while leading it in field goal percentage and standing out as a top-notch shot blocker. More importantly, Freeman spearheaded Akron’s run to the Big Dance.

Almost every game was a double-double for Freeman, who had 27 points and 14 rebounds against FIU early in the year in his first big performance. Later on, Freeman dropped 20 points and 20 rebounds against Gardner-Webb before contributing to plenty of Akron's success in league play. He was named MAC Tournament MVP for a run that included a 24-point, 21-rebound effort over Ohio in the semifinals. The amazing season would end with 21 points and 14 rebounds against a very talented Creighton squad in the NCAA Tournament.
