Contrary to popular belief, the college basketball season doesn’t sleep in May. Recent weeks have been filled with plenty of news from top to bottom in this sport. With the coaching carousel mostly settled, it’s all about the Transfer Portal, where NIL continues to wreak havoc on rosters across the nation. Regardless, we’re certainly settling into this period of time without actual games happening.

The live action will return next season, though there’s a long way until November. For now, we’re thinking about what we’ve recently seen in this sport. Today’s focus isn’t on the offseason mayhem but on last season’s highs and lows in a manner of speaking. After all, this past season gave us all kinds of breakout performances and memorable moments.

This is not a piece on the NCAA Tournament or on a specific conference, though it will tough on that and many more topics. Instead we’re continuing our recently begun series that ranks players based on their jersey numbers. This is a very arbitrary way to consider players, but that makes it fun and intriguing in a way and that quest continues today.

After focusing on the first few numbers, the focus turns to the best D1 players donning #3 over the last year. With hundreds of players in each of these initial single-digit numbers we definitely had a lot of names to consider today. Thus it’s not a surprise to see a long list of honorable mentions and likely a longer list of players who just missed the cut. Considering their accomplishments over just this past season, we dive right into the best players with #3 on their chest.
