4. Tamin Lipsey (Iowa State)

One of the things that made Iowa State’s season special this year was that they were winning games and making major moves without inherent star power. Lipsey was certainly one of the most important and most prominent players for the Cyclones, doing great work as a sophomore. You could easily call him a star for what he did on both sides of the ball with Iowa State.

Lipsey took a definite step forward as a sophomore, averaging 12.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 2.7 steals per game. He was the second-leading scorer for the Cyclones and was impacting the game all over the court, leading the Big 12 in steals. These great performances earned him First Team All-Big 12 honor, as he was a catalyst on a brilliant year for this program.

In early December, Lipsey had a triple-double in a win at DePaul and had 8 steals the following week against Prairie View A&M. His standout efforts weren’t all in nonconference play, including a 19-point, 5-steal game in a win over BYU and great all-around play during a Big 12 Tournament championship run. Lipsey helped lead the Cyclones to the Sweet Sixteen, scoring 17 points against South Dakota State in their opening win while continuing to fill the stat sheets on a regular basis.
