8. Augustas Marciulionis (Saint Mary’s)

Marciulionis came over from Lithuania three seasons ago, beginning his American basketball career at Saint Mary’s. Randy Bennett has done wonders over the years with international prospects and it’s no surprise to see the same happening once more. What’s perhaps the surprise here is just how productive a junior season Marciulionis just had for the Gaels.

On the court his numbers skyrocketed, averaging 12.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 5.3 assists, figures that were all more than double his previous bests. His game evolved on both sides of the ball, becoming not just a consistent guard for the Gaels, but an elite one at that. His efforts earned him WCC Player of the Year honors in leading Saint Mary’s to regular season and conference tournament titles.

Marciulionis had a handful of memorable efforts in league play, dropping 28 points on Pepperdine and 25 against Loyola Marymount. He showed up in the important games as well, helping lead the Gaels to a pair of wins over Gonzaga. His elite leadership earned him WCC Tournament MVP honors. He actually averaged more than 7 assists in his final ten games and truly emerged as a legend this season for the Gaels.
