8. Cam Martin (Boise State)

There’s no shortage of wild backstories and routes to success in college basketball but Martin has one of the most uneven. Already 25 years old before this past season even began, he began his career at Jacksonville State before starring at the D2 level for three years. Martin sat out a year then played just four games at Kansas before heading to Boise State for one final year of eligibility. His figures at Missouri Southern were awesome, but how did he compare to that with the Broncos?

Martin provided depth at forward and was a valuable bench piece for Boise State, averaging 5.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists a game. He made 56% of his 2-point attempts and played pretty solid basketball when he was on the court. Despite his limited action, he did rank among the MWC’s leaders in assists and offensive boards and helped get Boise State back to the Big Dance once again.

Martin had 12 points and 13 rebounds against non-D1 Vanguard to open the season and later scored 15 points in a loss at Clemson. You won’t find many more outings like those later in his season, but he did provide decent play for the Broncos across the whole season. He had 7 assists in a win over Air Force and had a few other double-digit efforts. His finest game might have come in his final one, with 10 points and 8 rebounds in an NCAA Tournament loss to Colorado.
