7. Duncan Powell (Sacramento State)

A Dallas native, Powell began his collegiate career at North Carolina A&T, though he didn’t see a lot of action with the Aggies. He actually appeared in just a single game in his first year before redshirting, though year two was obviously more impressive. Powell would transfer west to Sacramento State this past offseason and would make strides, becoming an important underclassman weapon for the Hornets.

That redshirt sophomore season would see him average 12.1 points and 7.0 rebounds a game, making 54% of his interior shots with career-bests in nearly every metric. This wasn’t exactly a standout season at Sacramento State, who struggled to a last place finish in the Big Sky, but Powell was the program’s top scorer and rebounder. He didn’t win any fancy awards or honors for his contributions, but was among the best rebounders in the Big Sky.

Powell had a slew of double-doubles early in the season, including during losses to Stanford and Tulane back in November. Most notably, he’d have a triple-double with 13 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists against Bethesda, a non-D1 school from California. His play was decent throughout league play while his program mightily struggled, while Powell would actually miss the tail end of the season due to injuries.
