NCAA Basketball: Top 10 players to wear jersey No. 31 in 2023-24 season
By Joey Loose
5. Jared Coleman-Jones (Middle Tennessee)
Coleman-Jones left his home state of Georgia to attend Northwestern as a freshman, but would stay with the Wildcats for just a single season. He transferred to Middle Tennessee back in 2020 and would have quite a bumpy ride with the Blue Raiders. Coleman-Jones played sparingly in two of those first three seasons while actually missing an entire year due to medical issues. Fortunately, he really came into his stride this season, his fourth on the court and third with the Blue Raiders.
The senior averaged 11.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists for what was easily the most productive season of his career. It was his first season as a starter and he’d help take Middle Tennessee to another 4th place finish in the CUSA. His program wasn’t exactly making waves, though Coleman-Jones emerged with Third Team All-CUSA honors. He sat as the second-leading rebounder in the CUSA and was also one of its best shot blockers.
Some impactful performances came during the season for Coleman-Jones including 17 points against Ohio in November and a bunch of double-doubles during league play. He actually grew into a major role for the Blue Raiders in the back half of the season, including a 20-point, 11-rebound effort in a win over Western Kentucky. He’d add 16 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Louisiana Tech in the conference tournament and will look to put an impressive finishing touch on his career at San Diego State next year.
