9. Paul Otieno (Quinnipiac)

Otieno, a 6’8 forward originally from Kenya, played high school ball in Kansas before ending up at Kilgore College, a non-D1 school in Texas. After two seasons there he caught D1 attention and wound up transferring to Quinnipiac. The last couple of seasons have seen Otieno emerge as an important frontcourt piece for the Bobcats, and this past year was another as a starter and playmaker.

Senior year saw him average 11.0 points and 6.9 rebounds per game during a season in which Quinnipiac would win the regular season title in the MAAC. Otieno led the conference in true shooting percentage, was one of its best rebounders, and had impressive contributions on defense as well, finishing 5th in the league in blocks. A lot went right in his second year with the Bobcats, becoming one of their key weapons.

Helping the Bobcats to a nice start to their year, Otieno had 21 points and 14 rebounds in a November win over Albany. He settled nicely into MAAC play, with 24 points against Rider and 23 versus Manhattan in the Bobcats’ first two home games in conference play. His role as a solid contributor continued down the stretch, including a 19-point, 12-rebound affair during an MAAC Tournament win over Canisius before their season ended in the CBI.
